Summer 2013 Study Abroad Program at the University of Limerick

The Department of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at the University of Limerick in Ireland, has had ongoing student exchanges with the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and is now expanding the partnership. The AE School will begin a Semester Abroad Program for Senior AE students at the University of Limerick (UL) in Summer 2013.

The program will be led and delivered by AE Professors Lakshmi Sankar and Dewey Hodges. Georgia Tech students participating in the program will be joined by UL students of Aeronautical Engineering and Composite Materials.

Course Offerings: 1) Undergraduate Research 2) Wind Engineering 3) Aeroelasticity 4) AE Vehicle Performance 5) AE Structural Analysis 6) High Speed Aerodynamics

Commenting on the news, Professor Michael McCarthy, Professor of Aeronautical Engineering at UL, stated "the decision by Georgia Tech to run a full semester at UL reflects the growing stature of UL in the key strategic aeronautical engineering sector and will I expect, lead to new research partnerships between UL and this leading institution."  Professor Tim McGloughlin, Head of the MABE Department at UL, also welcomed the announcement stating "this further expands our collaboration with GT which had previously focused on Biomedical Engineering and student exchanges,  and adds a new dimension to the UL activity in Aeronautical Engineering."

Professor Sankar at Georgia Tech also welcomed the development stating, "The program at Limerick will give our students an opportunity to gain experience abroad and interact with the esteemed faculty members at the University of Limerick.  We greatly look forward to our visit to Ireland."
