Keeping Your Student Engaged in the Spring of Their Sophomore Year

Primary tabs

Jordan Holliday, Coordinator of Sophomore Programs & Traditions Camps

This spring, New Student & Sophomore Programs has some unique opportunities for your second-year students to stay engaged on campus, including growing in their leadership, exploring co-ops and internships, and connecting with their fellow sophomores.

NSSP will hold its second-annual Sophomore Leadership Forum on Saturday, January 24, 2015, hosted by the Sophomore Programming and Resources Committee (SPARC). This daylong workshop allows sophomores to connect with their classmates and faculty/staff from across campus, as well as learn more about their style of leadership and how to make an impact on campus. This year, the program will also feature interactive team-building for all participants. The program is only available to sophomores, so make sure your student does not miss out on this opportunity. Applications will be available online January 5, with a small fee for attendance that includes a t-shirt.

Also, your student will continue to receive our “Year 2 at Tech” e-newsletter, with two additional issues planned for spring semester. This fall, our newsletter highlighted ways to get engaged on campus, as well as our most recent issue that focused on co-ops and internships. Future issues will focus on continuing to be successful with academic, avoiding the sophomore slump, study abroad and other summer opportunities. All previous issues and articles are available through our website at www.nssp.gatech.edu under “Sophomore Programs.”

These efforts are just two of the many taking place across campus. We invite you to encourage your student to stay engaged on campus throughout the spring. NSSP is always here to support your students; so, if they have questions or are unsure of where to go to get assistance or more information, send them our way and we can point them in the right direction. Congratulations on your student making it through the first semester of year two at Tech!
