New Library Databases for Fall 2014

There are 12 new databases added to the Library collection this fall.  The subjects are a broad cross-section of issues from race relations to patents and sports.  The databases are listed below, along with short descriptions, provided by the distributors.

Child Development and Adolescent Studies

  • Contains references to the current and historical literature related to growth and development of children through the age of 21
  • This includes all of the issues of Child Development Abstracts & Bibliography from 1927-2001 previously published by the Society for Research in Child Development, plus new coverage on child rights and welfare issues
  • Book reviews and abstracts from hundreds of journals and a bibliography of thousands of technical reports, books, book chapters, theses and dissertations covering biomedical and social sciences worldwide are indexed in this database
  • More than 383,000 records are included, with over 10,000 new records added each year

Peace Research Abstracts:

  • Includes bibliographic records covering: conflict resolution, international affairs, peace psychology, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline
  • The index contains more than 267,000 records, which are carefully selected from the most important sources within the discipline, such as: Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Journal of Refugee Law, etc.
  • EBSCO digitized the full archive of this index, including coverage dating back to 1964

Race Relations Abstracts:

  • Includes bibliographic records cover essential areas related to: race relations, including ethnic studies, discrimination, immigration studies, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline
  • Records are selected from many of the top titles within the discipline, including Race, Ethnicity & Education and Ethnic & Racial Studies

Violence and Abuse Abstracts:

  • Includes Bibliographic records cover essential areas related to: family violence, sexual assault, emotional abuse, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline
  • Contains more than 77,700 records, carefully selected from the most important sources within the discipline, such as: Child Maltreatment, Trauma and Violence & Abuse
  • EBSCO has digitized the full archive of this index, bringing coverage back to 1995

SPORTDiscus

  • The most comprehensive database covering sports and sports medicine journals with coverage dating back to 1985
  • Subject areas covered include: biomechanics, drugs, exercise, kinesiology, movement science, nutrition, occupational health and therapy, physical fitness, physical therapy, rehabilitation, sports and exercise psychology, coaching and education, and sports medicine
  • Content includes books, book chapters, conference proceedings, journal and magazine articles

Essential Science Indicators:

  • Allows researchers to analyze research performance of companies, institutions, nations, and journals; identify significant trends in the sciences and social sciences; rank top countries, journals, scientists, papers, and institutions by field of research; determine research output and impact in specific fields of research; evaluate potential employees, collaborators, reviewers, and peers
  • In-depth coverage with close to 12 million articles from over 12,000 journal titles from around the world; a solid basis for comparison of research performance that includes baselines, which are the benchmarks for assessing research impact; expert guidance that enhances data which provides editorial comments from scientists and researchers

BIOSIS Citation Index(formerly known as BIOSIS PREVIEWS):

  • Backfile extends to 1926
  • Provides seamless searching of nearly 5,000 journal titles and 20 million records in the life sciences field, as well as 165,000 documents from more than 1,500 meetings, with coverage dating back to 1926
  • A comprehensive reference database for life science research
  • Find information in virtually every life sciences discipline, including traditional biology (botany, ecology, zoology), interdisciplinary subjects (biochemistry, biomedicine, and biotechnology), and related areas, such as instrumentation and methods

Current Contents Connect

  • 1998- Updated daily, this premier current awareness resource provides unparalleled access to complete tables of contents, abstracts, and bibliographic information from the most recently published journals and books
  • Offers cover-to-cover indexing that provides access to all the valuable information available in journals — not just articles

Data Citation Index:

  • 1900- Connects digital research to powerful new discovery tools, giving researchers the ability to quickly and easily identify and access the most relevant digital research
  • Provides digital research that is discoverable, citable and linked to primary research literature
  • Coverage of nearly 2 million records from quality repositories from around the world
  • Digital research records built from descriptive metadata to create bibliographic records and cited references for digital research
  • Recommendations to the scholarly community for promoting standard citation formats for digital research

Derwent Innovations Index:

  • 1963- Facilitates rapid, precise patent searching and merges the value-added patent information from Derwent World Patents Index with the patent citation information from Derwent Patent Citation Index
  • Conduct powerful patent and citation searches of inventions in chemical, electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering
  • Uses additional descriptive information and coding to quickly grasp a patent’s significance and its relationship to other patents

Zoological Record:

  • 1864- The world's oldest continuing database of animal biology
  • The world's leading taxonomic reference, and with coverage back to 1864, has long acted as the world's unofficial register of animal names
  • The broad scope of coverage ranges from biodiversity and the environment to taxonomy and veterinary sciences

Web of Science Core Collection(Formerly known as Web of Science):

  • The world’s leading citation databases provide authoritative, multidisciplinary coverage from more than 12,000 high impact research journals worldwide, including Open Access journals
  • Cover-to-cover indexing of content is provided by Science Citation Index Expanded (1900 - present), Social Sciences Citation Index Expanded (1900 - present), Conference Proceedings Citation Index (1990-present), Arts & Humanities Citation Index (1975 - present), Book Citation Index (2005 - present), Current Chemical Reactions (1985 - present), and Index Chemicus (1993 - present)
  • Comprised of 100 years of valuable research, fully indexed and cross searchable
