Evolution of the Computer Industry

Abstract:
Mr. Huber will discuss the incredible changes that occurred in the computer industry over the past 30 years, how those changes influenced plans at Dell, and a view on what the years ahead may hold.

Speaker Bio:
Mr. Huber has an extensive career, spanning over three decades in the computer industry. Starting with the design of high-end mainframes and transitioning to a senior technology role in the PC industry, he is experienced in both hardware and software development.

Graduating from RPI with a B.S.E.E. in 1979, Mr. Huber joined IBM and started his career in processor design on the high-end System/390 computers. While at IBM, Mr. Huber worked on a variety of computer engineering projects including: PowerPC, Software Emulation, AIX, and Java.

Moving to Dell in 1998, Mr. Huber joined the Advanced Technology organization where he focused on software technology for the PC platform and was responsible for developing the overall software strategy. This included driving industry and OS support for new emerging PC technologies such as wireless, touch, and digital software delivery. During his tenure at Dell, Mr. Huber held the positions of executive director of technology strategy, CTO for Consumer & SMB (Small/Medium Business), and distinguished engineer.

Mr. Huber has earned over 45 patents in his career and has also served as an industry liaison with several major corporations on behalf of his employers. In 2014, Mr. Huber retired from Dell and is now working as an industry consultant.
