Park(ing) Day

Primary tabs

Members of the Student Planning Association will join a worldwide project to reimagine street spaces when they host PARK(ing) Day on Friday, Sept. 19.

Two parking spaces along 5th Avenue at Tech Square will be turned into a miniature park for lounging, games, studying or (almost) anything else that comes to mind.

PARK(ing) Day was created by the art and design studio Rehab as an exercise in “tactical urbanism.” In 2005, the group converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. It’s now a global “open-source” template for promoting urban open space.

The Student Planning Association comprises graduate students in Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning, an internationally recognized program devoted to pressing urban, environmental, economic and community development issues.
