Full Summary: Watch students compete to create the best boat -- using just cardboard and duct tape

Startup House students create teams and each team must build a boat out of cardboard and duct tape. The boat must hold two crew members while it makes its way across the Campus Recreation Center Pool.

  • Any thickness of corrugated cardboard is permitted. But waxed cardboard, carpet tubes and barrels are not allowed.
  • Styrofoam or any other flotation-type foam is a major "no-no." Violators will be branded "Barnacles" and stripped of any trophies.

Awards are under development now, but categories might include:

  • Admiral's Pride, Fastest Finish
  • Gear Head Award, Best science or physics involved in designing the boat, floatability and movement in water, and/or innovative & unique design
  • Titanic Award, Most Spectacular Sink!

Crew costumes are not required, but encouraged. We welcome all alums, students, faculty and staff to join us in this crazy, fun activity!
