The Panama Canal expansion, scheduled for completion in 2015, is expected to dramatically increase the flow of goods through east and gulf coast ports.  Join the discussion exploring what this will mean for roadway transportation infrastructure nationwide.  Researchers from the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development at the Georgia Institute of Technology will share the results of their work analyzing the impact of the expansion on the volume of commodity movement, trucking route choice, economic impact and how federal, state, and local government is planning to accommodate future freight needs. Following the presentation, panelists will discuss the service impact of shifting cargo to bigger ships and the net effects of either driving shipping to or from the U.S. East Coast ports.
