ISyE Hosts Annual Undergraduate Student Awards Ceremony

Students, faculty, parents, alumni, and award sponsors joined together to recognize some of ISyE’s exceptional undergraduate students for their outstanding academic achievement as well as for their contributions to the School and the community on April 15, 2014 at ISyE’s annual Undergraduate Awards Ceremony. 

Congratulations to the following students:      

Sukirat Bakshi, President, Georgia Tech IIE, and Tanay Rajore, President, Alpha Pi Mu, Honor Society received the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering Leadership Award. Both Bakshi and Rajore embody the characteristics of a great leader. Bakshi, a strong and effective leader who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves, set up the electronic check-in and response system for the IIE career fair and organized many successful events. Rajore is an exciting, innovative, and initiative-driver leader, has increased participation and activities within the IE honor society while incorporating more process improvement structures. 

Hongfan (Kevin) Chen received the ISyE Alpha Pi Mu Academic Excellence Award and the COE Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award.In an impressive five year span, Kevin has managed to complete two majors: IE and Math; two internships; three Ph.D. classes; and two research projects as well as a ticket to ACC Meeting of the Mind Conference.  Kevin has been admitted to multiple top PhD programs and aspires to be a professor.

Haley Hahmann received the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering Senior Service Award.  Hahmann won the award for her exceptional dedication to serving and representing ISyE. Haley extended herself beyond the scope of her responsibilities by always being available as an ISyE ambassador for prospective student visits, and being a key contributor in the development and deployment of ISyE's outreach program to high schools to promote industrial engineering as a major and the ISyE brand.

Pravara Manasa Harati received the Henry Ford II Best Junior Award for best academic performance at ISyE.

David Chen, Ayodeji Hambolu, Heather Humphrey, Tahsin Munir, Jeremiah Strang and David Weigel received the Jack C. Webb Scholarship based on their scholarship, leadership, extracurricular and community activities.

Jordan Avery, Andres Borda Cabal and Patrick Nadeau received the Kurt Salmon Associates Scholarship in Industrial and Systems Engineering for their academic merit and their contributions to ISyE.  

Caleb Steiner received the ALCOA Foundation Scholarship. Caleb received this award for exhibiting strong leadership skills, high energy, excellent interpersonal skills, tolerance for stress and initiative.

Bryce Ferguson received the IIE Student Chapter Outstanding Senior Award, Anubhav Jain received the IIE Student Chapter Rising Star Award and Maria Silva Willson received the IIE Student Chapter Top International Student Award for their strong academic performance, service and leadership.

Jordan Avery, Dylan Buczek, Nicholas Buczek, Jialei Deng, Jifeng Jiang, Erin Lightfoot, Jaclyn McClain, Binita Patel, Tanay Rajore and Jeremiah Strang received the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals Scholarship for their contributions to the supply chain engineering program at Georgia Tech.

Alyssa Fornek received the KS2 Technologies, Inc. Entrepreneurship Award because of her entrepreneurial spirit.Alyssa is the founder and owner of Jovial Expressions, a handmade greeting card business.  She started making cards a few years ago as a hobby and to help pay for her out-of-state tuition.

Georgia Wang received the KS2 Technologies, Inc. Innovative Technology Award.  Georgia designed the T-Fend: The Twistable Fender.  This fender is by cyclists to use during or after rainy days.  It is able to shield the cyclist from rain, mud, and backsplash caused when riding through wet surfaces while still remaining lightweight and compact.  The T-Fend also has a reflective surface for more visibility.

At the end of the ceremony, ISyE students surprised ISyE academic advisor, Fran Buser by acknowledging her for going above and beyond her duties as an advisor. Buser is noted as always willing and ready to help, with patience and kindness even during chaotic registration periods. The students say that Buser is genuinely invested in their success and a true supporter.

The awards and scholarships were presented by Pinar Keskinocak, William W. George Chair and Professor, Nicoleta Serban, ISyE associate professor, Fran Buser, ISyE academic adviser, Chen Zhou, ISyE associate chair for undergraduate studies, Andy Sun, ISyE assistant professor, Valarie DuRant-Modeste, ISyE academic advising manager, General Ronald L. Johnson, Professor of the Practice at  ISyE, Patti Parker, ISyE academic advisor, Diya Radhakrishna, President of IIE Student Chapter, Andrea Laliberte, ISyE Edenfield Executive in Residence.
