Alan Erera, ISyE associate chair for graduate studies, has been named a Coca-Cola Associate Professor in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISyE) for a three year term of service. The Coca-Cola Early Career Professorship is designed to enhance the ability of ISyE to “retain eminent teacher-scholars.”

“Alan’s accomplishments to date are impressive. His stature in the community is evidenced by his recent selection as one of only twenty-five U.S. participants in the first EU-U.S. Transportation Research Symposium on City Logistics co-sponsored by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies,” said Jane Ammons, school chair.

In addition to leading ISyE’s graduate studies program, Erera also has a large and active research program.  His research focuses primarily on transportation and logistics systems planning and control, with a focus both on innovative modeling and solution methodologies.  He works on challenging application areas including dynamic and stochastic vehicle routing and scheduling, robust asset management, logistics service network design, integrating security and efficiency in logistics systems, and highway traffic network analysis. Erera's research has been funded by both government agencies such as USDOT, DHS, and NSF, and through grants from industry partners in manufacturing and logistics. He currently co-directs the Center for Global Transportation at ISyE's Supply Chain & Logistics Institute.

Erera received his B.S. in engineering from Princeton University, and his Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California, Berkeley.
