Kosal Invited to Participate in Yearlong AAAS-FBI Project

Margaret E. Kosal, assistant professor in the School of International Affairs, has been invited to participate in a yearlong project on Big Data in the Life Sciences and National Security by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Center for Science, Technology, and Security Policy (CSTSP) and the Biological Countermeasures Unit of the WMD Directorate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

A working group of experts in technology, science, and security will be collaborating to further the project’s goal of reviewing the current scientific and technological advancements in big data analytics, applications to different life science fields, and impact on national security.

Margaret E. Kosal’s research explores the relationships among technology, strategy, and governance. Her research focuses on two, often intersecting, areas:  reducing the threat of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and understanding the role of emerging technologies for security.
