Georgia Tech's Strategic Plan lays out ambitious goals for the next twenty-five years, perhaps none more important than the Institute's commitment to "focus on societal benefit and improving the human condition." In that spirit, this year's Liam's Legacy Symposium highlights the personal and professional experiences of socially-engaged scholars and activists, challenging us to embed that commitment to the human condition more deeply in the campus culture, to make Georgia Tech's motto, "Progress and Service," a true mark of the Institute's identity.

The Liam Legacy Symposium honors the memory of Liam  Rattry, an outstanding an socially-committed Georgia Tech Honors Program student who was tragically killed just a few weeks before his graduation., in 2011. We mourn his death, but we also celebrate his life in this annual event that carries his name and draws upon his legacy of engagement and activism.
