The recently implemented bike ban in Kolkata, India is a move in the wrong direction for the emerging economy writes Jason Vargo (PhD '12) and Jonathan Patz of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "Kolkata has chosen to pursue a misguided policy whose negative implications will affect global climate as well as the local health and economy." Previously Kolkata facilitated 2.5 million bike trips per day, which will now have to be replaced by other modes of transportation.
