2nd of 3 deadlines to apply for the Boston Teacher Residency program

Primary tabs

Each year, the Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program brings on board 70 new aspiring educators who are committed to urban teaching. Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) recruits talented college graduates, career changers, and community members and gives them the tools they need to make an immediate impact in the classrooms of the Boston Public Schools (BPS). Combining a year-long classroom apprenticeship with targeted master’s-level coursework, the program offers much more than just an affordable route into teaching. BTR provides every Teacher Resident with the practical learning, hands-on experience, and ongoing support essential to any successful career in teaching.  The program includes a master’s degree as well as dual initial teaching licensure (certification) in a content area plus Special Education or English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in the state of Massachusetts.

BTR prepares teachers for:

• Elementary (grades 1-5)

• English – Middle and High School

• History – Middle and High School

• Math – Middle and High School

• Science – MS General Science, HS Biology, Chemistry, Physics

All residents pursue dual licensure in either Special Education or English as a Second Language (in addition to their main content area).
