New GT-CERT Class Graduates

Primary tabs

Congratulations to the newest members of GT-CERT, including GTPD’s very own Tim Foster (Patrol) and Scott Gillam (Emergency Preparedness).

The CERT course benefits any citizen who takes it. This individual will be better prepared to respond to and cope with the aftermath of a disaster. Additionally, if a community wants to supplement its response capability after a disaster, civilians can be recruited and trained as neighborhood, business and government teams that, in essence, will be auxiliary responders. Since 1993 when this training was made available nationally by FEMA, communities in 28 states and Puerto Rico have conducted CERT training.

The training consists of the following:

  • DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
  • DISASTER FIRE SUPPRESSION
  • DISASTER MEDICAL OPERATIONS
  • LIGHT SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS
  • DISASTER PSYCHOLOGY AND TEAM ORGANIZATION

The training concluded with a drill that was conducted at the old EPD building on 14th street that focused on first aid, search and rescue, fire safety and triage.

GT-CERT has trained over 150 staff, faculty and students on campus.    The newest members include:  James Turner, Scott Gilliam, Terry Culver, Enrichus Sykes, Nicole Roy, Valerie Roberts, Shirley Whitfield, Cynthia Stinson, Kim Benjamin, Chanda Scott, Sushma Sudhi, Hiba Hamdan, Ozeair Abessi, Megha Mandal, Jason Bishop, Chris White, Margaret Ojala, Melanie Thomas, Renee Vaughn, Jason Herrington, Michael Ward, Tim Foster, Adrian Harrish.

The next GT-CERT class will be offered in Fall 2013.   Contact Frank Stanley if you would like more information on the program or next class:  frank.stanley@police.gatech.edu.
