Part of Atlanta Preservation Center's Phoenix Flies Events

The Georgia Tech Tower, the first academic building of the then Georgia School of Technology, has served as the heart of the Institute since classes began in October of 1888. A history of the building will be given by Marilyn Somers, director of the Georgia Tech Living History Program, followed by a talk on the renovations given by Brad Satterfield, building manager. Immediately following the talk, a Traditions Tour of the campus will be given by Tech students who will be waiting in front of the building.

Free and open to the public. Reservations not required

This event is appropriate for young preservationists over 10 years of age.

Parking is available in the Tech Visitor’s Parking Lot on North Avenue, directly across the street from the Tower.

Georgia Tech Living History Program

The Georgia Tech Living History Program was founded in 1994 and conducted its first interview on July 11 with Robert Morris, EE 1944. Its mission is to collect, preserve and present the history of the Institute through the stories of her people.
