Campus Safety Week

Join the Georgia Tech Police Department for its annual Campus Safety Week. Officers will be on Tech Walk throughout the day on Thursday, Feb. 14, with various demonstrations and information about safety programs going on throughout campus. 

K-9 units, the Georgia Tech Equestrian Club with Atlanta Police mounted patrols, and McGruff the Crime Dog will all be in attendance, along with information from the Crime Prevention and Emergency Preparedness units of GTPD.

Crime prevention classes will be offered during the week from Feb.11-13:

  • Monday, Feb. 11: K9 Unit.
    Room 152, Clough Commons, 5-6 p.m. 
    The K9 Unit will share insights and information about this fascinating facet of police work. You will learn about the general functions of the K9 unit, along with what the dogs are used for and how they are trained. The presentation will include a demonstration of the principals employed in training the dogs.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 12: Alcohol and Drugs.
    Room 152, Clough Commons, 5-6 p.m. 
    The presentation will include a hands-on exercise with our beer goggles and also focus on legal repercussions, Institute policy, signs of drug use/abuse, and myths about alcohol. Please join us to learn more about this important topic in the college environment.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 13: Physical Security.
    Room 152, Clough Commons, 6-7 p.m.
    Officers will provide detailed information about theories, best practices, equipment, and technologies used to enhance safety and security on the Georgia Tech campus. The presentation will also give you a better understanding of physical security measures and principles you can employ to increase your personal safety at home and while traveling. 
  • Thursday, Feb. 14: Campus Safety Day.
    Tech Walk 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
