Bio
Bum Seok Chun has a long-standing interest in the application of geospatial information, based upon urban infrastructure and environmental sustainability in the planning domain. Dr. Chun obtained a PhD in City and Regional Planning at The Ohio State University (OSU). His dissertation, entitled “Three-Dimensional City Determinants of the Urban Heat Island by A Statistical Approach”, focuses on the UHI and related energy issues, using many geospatial techniques, such as Remote Sensing, LiDAR, and advanced spatial analysis. He has not only a Masters in City and Regional Planning but also another in Geodetic Science (Thesis title: Building reconstruction from feature vector with LiDAR data) from OSU, which has helped considerably in his empirical research. Recently, he was awarded the ACSP travel award and the Pixoneer Fellowship in the area of GIS, RS, and Spatial Statistics in 2011. Before joining Center for GIS at Georgia Tech, he had served as an adjunct faculty and graduate research associate at OSU and Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), respectively.
