Georgia Tech Professional Education will hold a Lean Manufacturing Overview and Live Simulation (MFG 2003) course Nov. 5, 2012 at the Georgia Tech campus in Savannah. The course serves as a basic introduction to Lean Manufacturing, and provides participants real-life experience with the production process that helps transform companies into profitable enterprises.

Participants will learn how to identify and reduce waste in the work place, and improve scheduling systems through a series of lectures, role playing, and a three-round simulation. The simulation will focus on common problems manufacturing companies face such as, material problems, equipment issues, and late or slow deliveries. Utilizing these techniques can prevent overproduction and lower costs within an organization.

“The Georgia Tech Lean Manufacturing Overview introduces participants to Lean concepts as well as staff looking for a refresher on Lean tools, techniques, and the eight wastes,” says Tim Israel, group manager for Lean Enterprise and Quality Services at the Georgia Institute of Technology Enterprise Innovation Institute. “It is an interactive class with a three round simulation which illustrates the concepts covered in class discussions.”

Basic Lean techniques including layout, flow, point-of-use storage, setup time reduction, and batch size reduction will be discussed. The course will also cover more advanced techniques like visual controls, quality at the source, workforce and management, pull systems and total productive maintenance.
