The 2012 Sparks Forum in Ethics and Engineering presents:

"Is IT Good? Ethics for an Information Age"

The 2012 Sparks Forum is a panel discussion exploring the points at which professional responsibility meets with the broader social and environmental implications of technological change. In particular, the panel highlights research and teaching currently underway at Georgia Tech concerning ethical issues that arise from innovations in information technology (IT).  The panelists will briefly introduce a wide variety of possible intersections between ethics and IT, including technology-driven changes to norms of intellectual property, the environmental impacts of producing and disposing of mobile electronic devices, and even the prospect of information technology changing the meaning of ethical choice and conduct itself.  These introductory presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion among the panelists, which will then expand to include the audience. The event is organized by the Center for Ethics and Technology with support from the Sparks Fund of the Georgia Tech Foundation, the College of Engineering, the School of Public Policy, and the Department of Undergraduate Studies.
