Commencement Office Policy Changes

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech recently announced the discontinuation of the Summer Commencement ceremony, effective August 2012. The change follows a thorough review of Tech’s commencement activities and reflects the Institute’s intention to be fiscally responsible in all phases of its operations.

For next year, students who satisfy their degree requirements in the summer will be invited to walk in the university’s Fall Commencement ceremony immediately following their graduation term, which means Summer 2013 graduates may participate in the Fall 2013 Commencement ceremony. The Institute will continue to award degrees for spring, summer and fall terms.

Georgia Tech welcomes any questions or feedback from parents regarding summer graduates. Inquiries can be sent to the Office of the Registrar at comments@registrar.gatech.edu.

In addition to this change in commencement ceremonies, Georgia Tech is excited to bring Fall Commencement 2012 back to campus in the newly renovated McCamish Pavilion. Due to capacity limitations, the Institute will issue general admission tickets, and students will have the opportunity to request tickets when they RSVP. Bachelor’s candidates will be issued six guest tickets; doctoral and master’s candidates will receive eight guest tickets.

Unclaimed tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at McCamish Pavilion on the event day of each ceremony, but no more than five tickets per student will be distributed.

Both ceremonies will be broadcast live via our website for the benefit of family and friends unable to attend.
