Photoinduced Electron Transfer Processes of Self-Assembled Inorganic Nanomaterials

Analytical Division Seminar Series

Our research focuses on the assembly of composite inorganic nanomaterials and the characterization of their photoinduced electron transfer reactivity. In the materials assembly process, semiconductor quantum dots are tethered to the surfaces of metal oxide films through bifunctional molecular linkers. The first part of the seminar will focus on materials synthesis, surface functionalization and monolayer reactivity, and the self-assembly process. In the second part of the seminar, two examples of photoinduced electron transfer reactivity will be discussed: the photocatalytic oxidation of surfactants and its application in site-selective nanoparticle deposition, and the spectroscopic characterization of electron injection from photoexcited quantum dots into metal oxide substrates.
