Biofuels Summer Camp

Primary tabs

The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the GT Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) hosted its second annual “Biofuels Summer Enrichment Camp” during the week of June 13-17, 2011.

Local high school students received programming on the significance of biofuels in today’s world, participated in synthesis of bioethanol and biodiesel, and performed various chemical techniques (distillation, extraction, gas and thin-layer chromatography, combustion analysis, calorimetry). The program concluded with a tour of a campus lab biofuel research lab, a biofuels/paper science museum, and liquid-nitrogen ice cream social with students/parents. Special thanks to the GT Student Affiliates Chapter of the ACS, Mr. Nico Eidson, Ms. Marcela Moreno, Drs. Leigh Bottomley, Carrie Shepler, Anthony Baldridge, Kathy Woody, and Cameron Tyson for their help/support of the program.
