Sneak Peek: An Introduction to Video for Media Relations and Other Communications Professionals

Primary tabs

Description:
Do you ever feel like you are a “one-man band” in your unit? While we have a large network of communications professionals on campus, our resources are often limited and we are each called upon to wear many hats. Come hear how Rick Perera of CARE operates as a “one-man band” media relations professional. He’ll review how he gathers stories, photos and videos, and will also share examples. In addition, he’ll discuss video-shooting techniques, video editing software and there will be a demo/trial of FlipCam shooting. This will be a great chance to learn more about incorporating video into your unit’s communications strategy.

Presenter:
Rick Perera, Communications Officer with CARE. Rick has served in various communications roles for CARE since 2002, including as media officer and emergency press officer handling media relations at disaster sites. He recently returned from a three-month assignment directing media and communications for the Horn of Africa food crisis, and has also completed emergency assignments in Haiti, Pakistan, Nicaragua and other countries. Prior to joining CARE, he worked as a print and broadcast journalist, beginning his career at CNN.
