Atlanta on the Cutting Edge: Models for Growth

Primary tabs

The Seaside Institute, in collaboration with several organizations, is presenting Atlanta on the Cutting Edge: New Models for Growth and Renewal. The conference's broad and comprehensive agenda will give public and private practitioners the tools and design strategies that will enable them to successfully tackle growth and renewal challenges in their own cities and towns. Speakers will represent places that illustrate the different disciplines needed to enact change - design, development, policy-making, community building, civic activism and business leadership.

Participants will learn specific details of development from case studies of projects that represent the change from the very bad to the very good. Participants will also be able to see firsthand how to implement new design and development techniques through a series of guided tours to a few of Atlanta's New Urbanism and Smart Growth projects.

The agenda includes five major tracks, each lasting a half day. In the morning, a plenary session will kick off the day, followed by at least four 30- to 45-minute breakout sessions that will focus on case study presentations and critiques each half day. Speakers will represent places that illustrate best practices, as well as the different disciplines needed to enact change - designers, developers, policy-makers, community builders, civic activists and business leaders.

In the tradition of The Seaside Institute, participants will also be able to see firsthand how to implement new design and development techniques through a series of tours to Atlanta's best New Urbanism and Smart Growth projects.
