"Development of a Multi-modality Experimental Platform for Validation of Patient-specific Computational Simulations of the Human Left Ventricle"

The objective of this work is to develop an experimental framework for validation of computational modeling of patient-specific left ventricular mechanics based on the curvilinear immersed boundary method. The development of experimental models of the left ventricle and the investigation of the intra-ventricular fluid-structure interaction using multiple diagnostic techniques will be discussed.

"Dynamic Immune Cell Accumulation during Flow-induced Atherogenesis in Mouse Carotid Artery: An Expanded Flow Cytometry Method"

Inflammation plays a central role in atherosclerosis. However, the early dynamics of immune cell recruitment into the nascent lesion are not fully understood. We combined a novel, disturbed flow mouse model of atherosclerosis with state-of-the-art FACS methods to quantify immune cell recruitment in developing plaques. We show that immune cell numbers peak prior to plaque development, while inflammation in the lesion increases progressively.

The Graduate and Post-Doc (GaP) Seminar Series is a weekly event of biotechnology related research presentations by two graduate students or post-docs of IBB and is co-sponsored by BME. It is held every Wednesday at 12:00pm in IBB 1128 and refreshments are provided. If your research group or department would like to present at future seminars, please contact Manu Platt, PhD at manu.platt@bme.gatech.edu.
