Georgia Tech Students Earn 1st Place Honors for Video Game

Primary tabs

A team of Georgia Tech students recently took first place at the 2011 Southern Interactive Entertainment & Game Expo (SIEGE) Student Showcase for developing and presenting an independent video game. Vision by Proxy: Second Edition has garnered more than two million plays since its release in mid-August.

The winning team is comprised of Digital Media Master’s students Andrew Ho, Chris DeLeon and Christine Wu, as well as Rose Peng (Computational Media 2010). The first edition of the game was developed during fall 2009 under the guidance of Celia Pearce, assistant professor in digital media in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture.

As described last year in the Digital Lounge, Vision by Proxy features a one-eyed alien who crashes his spaceship on Earth. He must collect eyes from humans in order to see the world in a completely new way. As eyes are collected, the game unveils new visuals and different perspectives.

Another Georgia Tech team won third place honors for Gravigo. The team consisted of Computational Media students Kelly Snyder and Ken Hartsook and Computational Science students AJ Kolnec and Robert Grosse.

SIEGE is an annual trade show hosted by the Georgia Game Developers Association. The Georgia Tech teams competed against student groups from Savannah College of Art and Design, Southern Polytechnic, Georgia State and the Art Institute of Atlanta.
