Don’t Miss the 2011 KP Corporate Run/Walk

Primary tabs

Pace yourself and enjoy it. That’s BeNedra Williams’ advice for anyone participating in the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk.

“This will be my fourth year participating in the race — three years with Tech and one prior to coming here,” said Williams, a senior benefits counselor in the Office of Human Resources. “Crossing the finish line is the best part of it, but engaging with fellow coworkers from other departments is also a nice part of the experience.”

The Sept. 8 race attracts 20,000 participants — from walkers to runners — from more than 600 Atlanta companies. So far, the Georgia Tech team has more than 200 people signed up, said Faith Doldo, fitness coordinator of the G.I.T. FIT program at the Campus Recreation Center (CRC).

“The race is pretty much an office party — outside of the office — that is meant to help with team building and employee health and fitness,” Doldo added.

Sherri Brown, a librarian at the Tech Library, has participated in the race for three years. The highlight of the event for Brown is bonding with colleagues from other departments in the library.

“There’s nothing like sweating with others to bring you closer together,” she added.

The race will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in downtown Atlanta. Faculty and staff members, their friends and family, and students are all welcome to join the Tech team.

The cost is $30 per registrant and includes Kaiser Permanente Run/Walk and Georgia Tech T-shirts, a free CRC membership through Sept. 8, a shuttle providing transportation to and from the race, and an after-party with food, beverages and on-site chair massages the night of the event. Also, the department with the most participants will receive an additional party with on-site chair massages.
