Band to Perform in Australia

Primary tabs

In May 2007, members of the Georgia Tech Band Program will participate in The Australia Cultural Exchange Concert Tour. Students will begin rehearsing in April and travel to Sydney after exam week.

Collaborative concerts with other college bands from Australia will be the hi-light of the Tour. During the tour, the Georgia Tech Band will perform at the Avondale College and Woollongong Conservatory. They will also tour the Sydney Opera House. "Students will not only have the opportunity to be ambassadors for their country and Georgia Tech, but will collaborate with Aussies through musical performance," said band director Andrea Strauss. "This is what makes this trip unique...a 'chance of a life-time' experience. This trip is also a precursor to what will come in 2008 in celebration of the Georgia Tech Band's 100th anniversary."

In recent years, members of the Georgia Tech Band have had the opportunity to perform for international audiences. In March of 2001, the Georgia Tech Symphonic Band performed a collaborative concert with the Dublin Institute of Technology Wind Ensemble and the Yellow Jacket Marching Band performed in the St. Patrick Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. Most recently in October of 2005, members of the Symphonic Band were invited to perform for the Shanghai International Arts Festival in Shanghai, China. These opportunities have enhanced cultural and artistic environments and promoted educational and academic initiatives.
