Cool Insights: Monitoring Produce Quality Requires Good Temperature Management

Primary tabs

In the June 2011 issue of Food Logistics, Dr. Beth Mitcham, Director of the Postharvest Technology Center at UC Davis and member of the Georgia Tech Integrated Food Chain Center (IFC), authored the fourth installment for the Cool Insights column, titled “Monitoring Produce Quality Requires Good Temperature Management”.  Mitcham discusses how the exposure of fresh produce to warm temperatures results in loss of saleable weight and reductions in market quality and shelf life.

The column, which began with the April / May 2010 issue, has exclusively featured thoughts from the faculty, staff, and partners of IFC on various aspects of food chain.

Previous installments of the Cool Insights column:

Food Logistics, April/May 2011:  Dr. H. Donald Ratliff authored the third installment for the Cool Insights column, titled “How Can We Get Value From Product Traceability?”.

Food Logistics, March 2011:  Nick Pacitti, Sterling Solutions LLC, Memphis and co-founding member, Integrated Food Chain Center, authored the second installment for the Cool Insights column, titled “Collaboration Is Critical For Cold Chain Improvement.”
