Two​ Modern Languages faculty members will deliver research presentations about their research in the field of environmental humanities. Brigitte Stepanov will present on "Epistemologies of Energy: Infrastructure, Community, Poetics" and Miguel Rosas Buendia will present on "Andean Mining Landscapes: Science, Society and Culture."

Stepanov is a war researcher and an assistant professor of Francophone studies. She is the founder and director of the Energy Today Lab, an interdisciplinary research hub that reflects creatively and analytically on the energy — broadly defined from labor to thermodynamics - of our contemporary world. Her research interests focus on 20th- and 21st-century French, North African, and Sub-Saharan African literary and visual culture.

Buendia is an assistant professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies. His research focuses on knowledge production, nationalism, extractive industries, and the transatlantic exchange of ideas about the pre-Columbian material culture. He is the founder and director of the Latin American Environmental Humanities Lab (LAEH Lab), an interdisciplinary and cross-school initiative at the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Among other projects, LAEH Lab produces Amatl, a podcast on environmental issues in Latin America.
