Seminar Title: Integrating Smart Stuff into IoMT: Applications and Challenges

Abstract:
The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is merging health and activity monitoring with the broader Internet of Things framework, facilitating a cohesive health and wellness monitoring ecosystem with seamless data collection. Smart gadgets, such as thermostats, air quality sensors, and intelligent lighting systems provide context of measurements and contribute to an ambient intelligence framework. Physiological monitors integrated into objects of everyday use, that we call “Smart Stuff,” provide exciting new opportunities for seamless monitoring during daily activities, and synergistic processing of information from wearable and environmental sensors within IoMT framework. Wearables and Smart Staff integrated into IoMT ecosystem empower individuals to proactively take control of their own health and manage chronic conditions, but also provide healthcare professionals with wealth of information that can be used for better diagnostic procedures, predictive analytics, timely intervention, and objective assessment of treatment outcomes, ultimately improving patient care and reducing healthcare expenses. In this presentation, we will present our latest research, emerging new applications, and the challenges that need to be addressed for broader IoMT adoption.
