Voice + Technology

Primary tabs

For this two-day event, the Voice + Research Lab housed in the School of Modern Languages will begin with a performer and Q&A event on Tuesday, November 14 from 6pm-8pm in Exhibition Hall - Midtown V with Deena Abdelwahed, who is a Tunisian producer and DJ, and has released a number of albums on the InFiné label in Paris, including “Khonnar” (2018) and “Dhakar” (2020). Her musical explorations strive to reinterpret the diverse elements that comprise Arab music, drawing inspiration from both club music and the current experimental music scene. She has performed live and DJ sets at various festivals, including Sonar in Spain, Berlin’s CTM, Mexico City’s Mutek, and clubs such as Concrete Paris, Berlin’s Berghain and Moscow’s Mutabor.

On Wednesday, November 15 from 10am-2pm in Student Center - Piedmont Meeting Room 1216, we will host a student research symposium with an undergraduate poster session incorporating student research from a variety of units on campus: the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, the School of Music, and the Scheller School of Business. The poster research presentation is open to all students at Georgia Tech--the Call for Presentations will be circulated soon). Students can receive awards for their research in relation to Voice and Technology.

On Wednesday, November 15 from 3pm-5pm in Student Center - Northside Meeting Room 3245, we will host visiting scholar Dr. Renée Altergott, Wabash College, who will present her research talk “Reading Against the Grain of the Voice: Flaubert’s Madame Bovary” explores early sound recording media technologies (and spoken recordings) in French and Francophone contexts.
