Jim Pope Fellowship Final Deadline

Primary tabs

CREATE-X invites you to apply for the Jim Pope CREATE-X Faculty Fellows Program. This program allows Georgia Tech faculty members to spend three consecutive semesters building a startup with financial support, receiving mentorship on evidence-based entrepreneurship, and the opportunity to support Georgia Tech’s students become entrepreneurs themselves.

Compensation

Each Jim Pope CX Faculty Fellow receives a fellowship of $15,000 in discretionary funds for use during the program year. The funds may be used to seek a partial reprieve from teaching for one semester.

Program Eligibility

All faculty members are eligible, including tenured and non-tenured, research faculty, lecturers, and academic professionals.

Program Structure

· Fall Semester 1: CX Faculty Fellows will learn principles of evidence-based entrepreneurship by attending a workshop and shadow teaching one of the CREATE-X courses: Startup Lab or Tech Ventures. These courses teach undergraduates and graduate students, respectively, how to examine startup ideas by conducting meaningful customer discovery, testing critical hypotheses, and constructing minimum viable products to learn about their markets. By shadow teaching either of these courses, CX Faculty Fellows will become skilled in these entrepreneurship principles while simultaneously learning how to teach them to GT students.

· Spring Semester: As part of the spring semester, CX Faculty Fellows will supervise teams in CREATE-X Capstone Senior Design and/or Idea-to-Prototype research. Each faculty member will mentor 4-6 teams of students. The mentorship will span a range of topics from problem identification to prototyping and will include customer discovery.

· Summer Semester: The summer semester offers opportunities to work with student startups through CREATE-X Startup Launch. CX Faculty Fellows can serve as mentors or coaches for a team of entrepreneurs who are launching a company. As a mentor, the Fellow can offer domain expertise to help students navigate challenges within their respective industries. As a coach, the Fellow can guide the entrepreneurs in evidence-based entrepreneurship to gain a foothold in the market.

Finally, during each semester, Fellows can participate in Startup Academy, which is a workshop that helps the GT community use evidence-based entrepreneurship to explore a startup idea.

Commitment

After completing the CX Faculty Fellows Program, each fellow will be trained to lead multiple CREATE-X programs. We strongly encouraged fellows to continue participating in CREATE-X programs like those below for at least two more years after the fellowship.

•       Startup Lab or Tech Ventures

•       CREATE-X Capstone or Idea-to-Prototype

•       Startup Launch

Through this fellowship, we want to enable faculty members like you to integrate innovation and entrepreneurship into your courses and become a part of the great innovation ecosystem we have at Georgia Tech. You have the talent to enter the market and the knowledge our students need to enter it with you. Let us support you. Apply to the Jim Pope CREATE-X Faculty Fellows Program today.
