Employee Health Fair Offers Something for Everyone

Primary tabs

Whether you’re looking to try out a Zumba class or find out your blood pressure, this year’s Employee Health Fair offers something for every Tech faculty and staff member. The fair is part of the third annual National Employee Health and Fitness Day, which is sponsored by the Go T.E.C.H. (Teams Encouraging Campus Health) coalition.

“Coming to the health fair is a great way to spend lunch and learn about campus and community health services — plus there will be giveaways,” said Christie Stewart, one of the event organizers and associate director for healthy lifestyle programs at the Campus Recreation Center.

The event will be held this Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom and will feature 25 to 30 vendors from on and off campus including Big Peach Running Company, the Midtown Alliance, Evos, the Tech Rehab Clinic and Dining Services.

Attendees will also be treated to giveaways, chair massages and Polar BodyAge Assessments. HealthCheck screenings ranging from a lipid profile to a cardiac profile will be available for a fee. Employees may also take — or watch — sampler fitness classes that will be taught by G.I.T. FIT program instructors. The schedule of classes is:

  • Noon — Power Hour (a fusion of strength and cardio intervals)
  • 12:30 p.m. — Zumba
  • 1 p.m. — Hip Hop

In addition to the health fair activities, a free faculty/staff boot camp exercise class will be held on May 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., and a campus walk on the Pi Mile course will be held on May 19 at noon. Both events will take place at the CRC, and there is no need to sign up in advance, Stewart added.
