Seminar Title: Let’s brighten the future of Microelectronics, together!

Abstract of Talk: The speculated ending of Moore’s Law has created fear in the community—is it really ending soon? Hardly, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy; it will end for those who believe the ending is nigh and can cause them to give up! This talk will revisit these historic predictions and their validity, the state and maturity of emerging devices in that context, and more importantly—largely ignored—promising system-level opportunities to play a critical role. The future is bright, and you can make it even more so!  Mr. Radecic will provide perspective and context to the talent and skills a company like Qualcomm is looking for to create the next generation of technology.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: Shekhar Borkar is a Sr. Director of Technology at Qualcomm Inc. He started his career with Intel Corp. since 1981, worked on the 8051 family of microcontrollers, supercomputers, high performance, low power digital circuits research, and served as the principal investigator of several DARPA & DOE funded projects. He has authored over 100 peer reviewed publications in conferences and journals, over 60 invited papers and keynotes, five book chapters, and has more than 60 issued patents. Shekhar served as the TPC chairman of VLSI Circuit Symposium in 2002, and as the conference chairman in 2004. Shekhar was an adjunct faculty at Oregon Graduate Institute, taught graduate course on VLSI design for more than 10 years. His research interests are low power, high performance digital circuits and system level optimization. Shekhar holds M.Sc. in Physics from University of Bombay in 1979, and MSEE from University of Notre Dame in 1981.

Biographical Sketch of Speaker 2: Matt Radecic graduated from Penn State in May 2007 with a BS CmpE and then joined Qualcomm that same year.  He helps advance the customer education of commercial technology and enable customer success.
