Biomechanical factors play a key role in the cardiovascular system during vascular growth, vascular remodeling and in vascular disease progression. Developments in vascular imaging combined with advances in computational techniques enable identification of biomechanical parameters that play a role in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis. Advances in molecular techniques provide knowledge linking biomechanics and vascular biology, and open new avenues for therapeutic interventions.
