The School of Industrial Design at Georgia Tech Invites Applications for Two New, Tenure-Track Faculty Positions

Primary tabs

“We’re Rebuilding..."
The School of Industrial Design is seeking to fill two nine-month, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant/Associate rank. Candidates should have a strong track record and commitment to design, research, and teaching.  A PhD or an advanced degree in industrial design together with a second related degree (Mechanical Engineering, Management, Human Computer Interaction) is preferable.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Earlier this year, the University administration underscored the commitment to build a stronger future in design, commensurate with a Tier 1 Research Institution, by restructuring the School of Industrial Design as an autonomous unit within the College of Architecture. The ‘new’ School currently offers a BSID & MID and is working towards establishing a PhD while currently offering a doctoral concentration in ID in connection with the College of Architecture.

Our new mandate is to build design and research capabilities in collaboration with other well-recognized Programs and Centers on the Georgia Tech campus including:

  • Center for Assistive Technology & Environmental Access (CATEA)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Health Systems Institute (HSI)
  • Interactive Computing
  • Graphics Visualization Unit (GVU)

Successful candidates will be expected to develop a strong collaborative research agenda with one or more of the groups identified above; teach specialty courses in design theory or methodology; and teach an integrated design studio. Priority areas for research and teaching include: Health & Well-Being, Product Development & Innovation, and Interactive Product Design.

Interested applicants should submit the following on or before April 30/11:

  • A letter outlining your interest in the future of Industrial Design with an overview of your approach to design, research, and teaching;
  • A curriculum vitae; and
  • One well-illustrated research paper/publication in support of your qualifications
