Jason Fuller: Co-Simulation: Bringing the Pieces Together

Primary tabs

The power system is becoming more and more reliant on resources outside the traditional utility footprint - Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) providing power at the edge of the grid, natural gas pipelines that serve dozens of generators, and energy intense loads that are mobile and currently unpredictable. But to operate the power system with a leaner reserve margin and reduce overall costs, these new resources need to participate in maintaining—or improving—system efficiency, resiliency, and reliability. This requires new control and protection systems, along with supporting communication networks. This is a revolution in how the power system is planned and operated. We will discuss the evolution of multi-infrastructure modeling from the lens of Fuller's own career journey.
