Dr. Ayda Melika, filmmaker and professor of media and urbanism at Georgia Tech, will lead discussion in a panel on race, gender and sexual violence in Middle Eastern Film and Society. Panelists also include filmmaker Navid Mahmoudi, director of multiple award winning films focused on experiences of Middle Eastern women and refuges, as well as Dr. Dean Aslinia, the Chair of the Counseling Department at University of Phenix and the President of Arizona Counseling Associates. Examining Mahmoudi’s 2019 film Seven and a Half among other productions, the panelists will engage in a conversation that sheds light on the cultural, psychological and socio-economical structures of racial injustice and gender inequality in Middle Eastern cities and communities.
