Members of the Administration and Finance (A&F) leadership team met earlier this week with staff to discuss structural changes that will affect several departments. These changes are part of A&F’s continuing work to more effectively deploy its resources and provide support for the core mission of student success and the research enterprise.

“We have an opportunity to make strategic organizational changes in A&F to better position our teams to lead the Institute in our key support areas and to help establish a path forward as we strive to achieve institutional goals,” said Kelly Fox, executive vice president for Administration and Finance.

Beginning July 1, there will be several organizational changes in A&F.

A focus on sustainability

The name and focus of Administration will be changing. To reflect the importance of sustainability in campuswide operations, the unit will be renamed the Office of Sustainability, Facilities, and Safety. This change will help position Georgia Tech to be a leader and innovator in utilizing sustainable practices, developing the workspaces of the future, and managing the built environment. The Office will continue to emphasize the importance of integrating safety into workspaces and operations through the Georgia Tech Police Department and Environmental Health and Safety.

A national search for the vice president for Sustainability, Facilities, and Safety will be launched in July. Mark Demyanek has agreed to serve in the interim role while the search takes place.

JulieAnne Williamson will assume the role of executive director of Sustainability and Building Operations within the newly formed organization. This realignment will ensure the close coordination and collaboration of the built environment, the management of workspaces, and campus safety practices.

A focus on student success

Campus Services will now report directly to the executive vice president for Administration and Finance. This change offers an opportunity to explore how best to create seamless student service offerings and ensure that Administration and Finance leaders keep students at the forefront of decision-making.

Organizational alignment

To enhance integration of critical communication efforts, Administration and Finance web design and digital signage will transition to Institute Communications, enabling a broader impact and increased alignment with the Institute.

Other changes in A&F include transitioning the role of the associate vice president for Institute Planning and Resource Management to associate vice president for Planning and Support Services, which will be held by Jennifer Hubert on a permanent basis. This new role will continue to oversee Capital Planning and Space Management (CPSM), Institutional Research and Planning, Enterprise Data Management, and Enterprise Resource Planning. The expanded position will also be responsible for creating a shared services organization to enhance the coordination of critical finance and planning activities across the Institute. More information about the shared services effort will be coming later this summer.

Due to the growing scope and the Institute’s strategic needs, the former role of executive director for Real Estate Development will transition to associate vice president for Real Estate Development and will be held by Tony Zivalich. This new position will report directly to the executive vice president for Administration and Finance and will have a more coordinated working relationship with CPSM to ensure alignment of institutional planning and real estate strategies.
