Rachel Dekom Receives First-Ever SAB Internship Scholarship

Primary tabs

HTS major Rachel Dekom has been chosen by the Ivan Allen College Student Advisory Board as the recipient of their first ever Summer Internship Scholarship. This scholarship is provided by the SAB to a student from Ivan Allen who will use this money to further their summer internship experience.

Rachel will be participating in the Serve-Learn-Sustain internship program this summer. She is paired with an organization called Carrie's Closet, a mobile clothing pantry for children entering foster care. Her focus will be on researching child welfare policy in Georgia and other states so that Carrie's Closet can begin effectively advocating for a Foster Child Bill of Rights in Georgia. Rachel will be using the SAB scholarship to pay for a portion of her living expenses while living at home, as her family has been hit particularly hard financially by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The funding was secured in part from Sandia Labs by HTS major and SAB member Lucy Groves.
