The School of History and Sociology at Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in sociology at the rank of assistant professor. The position will begin in August 2020. We seek a candidate specializing in inequality and social justice, with a preference for U.S.-based research.

We encourage applications from candidates who use mixed methods in their research and who can teach courses on quantitative methods. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. completed by the time of appointment and an established research trajectory that fits with the mission of the school. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in both research and teaching and will be expected to contribute to the school's undergraduate and graduate programs. A background check must be completed prior to employment.

The application deadline is September 15, 2019, but the search will continue until the position is filled. Application materials should be sent electronically. The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) is a department within the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts (IAC), and serves as the primary home for the disciplines of history and sociology at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). HSOC is committed to outstanding teaching and research. Research areas in HSOC include history of technology and engineering in society; global cities and urban society; agriculture, health, and the environment; modern global history of science, technology, and nationalism; and political and policy perspectives on U.S. society.
