Get Involved with Health Initiatives

Primary tabs

Community engagement is a vital part of your health and well-being. It can also help you meet new people with similar passions and interests as well as find an avenue to channel your stress into a positive new experience. Health Initiatives (HI) has boundless opportunities for you to get involved, meet new students and employees and further cultivate your passions. If you don’t believe us take a look at these four programs you can join right now!

Healthy Jacket Peer Educators:

Students are invited to join fellow campus leaders who serve as healthy lifestyle role-models for their peers. They are extensively trained volunteers who give presentations on a variety of health topics, design and implement health programs for students and collaborate with campus partners to create a healthy Georgia Tech community. The application is open and available at healthinitiatives.gatech.edu/healthyjacket.

Teal Ribbon Day:

VOICE, Georgia Tech's sexual violence prevention and response initiative, invites the entire Georgia Tech community to participate in the sixth annual Teal Ribbon Day as a show of support for survivors in our community and a dedication to preventing sexual violence on campus. You can join a campus wide group photo on April 11th at noon at the Georgia Tech campanile. Even if you can’t attend the group photo you can take a picture of yourself, colleagues/friends, or department/student organization, and submit the photos, along with your name and affiliation, to voice@gatech.edu on April 10. You can also get involved by joining the Sexual Violence Prevention Alliance (SVPA) which is comprised of students, faculty and staff members across campus committed to preventing sexual assault on campus, increasing awareness of the issue, and increasing the number of students who seek assistance from campus and community resources.

Wellness Coaching:

Wellness coaching is a new service for students (both undergrad and graduate) to sign up for if interested in enhancing personal and academic goals. Coaching aims to be very forward thinking, strengths based, and rooted in the utilization of motivational interviewing techniques. It encourages personal responsibility in which students utilize reflective thinking, self-discovery, and self-efficacy to discover their full potential. HI Health Educator Elaine Miller said, “coaching is centered on the topic of wellness which can encompass many more specific goals. For example, possible areas to explore in coaching include but are not limited to: fitness, sleep, healthy eating, stress, time management, organization, relationships, and future plans.” If interested in wellness coaching register at healthinitiatives.gatech.edu/wellness-coaching.

Mindful Mondays:

Every Monday, HI hosts Mindful Mondays: Drop In & Relax. This program is focused on helping individuals relax and de-stress with short guided mindfulness exercises! Join this relaxing space to learn and practice simple mindfulness techniques and stress management skills that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine. The entire Georgia Tech community is invited to attend. The last session of the semester is April 22nd.

HI cultivates a thriving environment that enhances lifelong well-being among students and employees who live, learn, and work in the Georgia Tech community. If you are interested in connecting with HI go to healthinitiatives.gatech.edu.
