Primary tabs

Associate Professor Shatakshee Dhongde was awarded the Ivan Allen Jr. Faculty Legacy Award for 2019. The Ivan Allen JrLegacy Awards honor faculty and students whose lives and work embody the spirit of Georgia Tech alumnus Ivan Allen Jr. (Commerce 1934). As stewards of Mayor Allen’s legacy, the College champions research, teaching, and service that encompass Mayor Allen’s visionary urban policies and his values of social courage, social justice, and ethical action.

By sharing her research and engaging with the Atlanta community, Shatakshee is embodying that vision. Measurement of poverty, inequality, and deprivation have been central interests in Dhongde’s research. She has collaborated to publish the first estimates of multidimensional poverty in the U.S. since the Great Recession. She is the recipient of the Nancy and Richard Ruggles Prize awarded by the International Association of Review of Income and Wealth. Her research on poverty in the U.S. has been highlighted in national media including National Public Radio.

Dhongde has a stellar teaching record evidenced by multiple teaching awards including Georgia Tech’s Out-standing Undergraduate Research Mentor Award (2017) and the Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2013). In 2015, the Student Advisory Board of the Ivan Allen College honored her with the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. She has been selected for Georgia Tech’s Emerging Leaders Pro-gram and the Provost Teaching Learning Fellows Program.

We are honored to have Shatakshee Dhongde as a faculty member in the School of Economics!
