Candidate Announcements for the Director of Programming Emergency Election

Primary tabs

The candidates for the RHA Director of Programming have been announced! Elections will take place on February 20th in RHA's Legislative Council.

Cayla Jones

I intend to apply for Director of Programming of the Residence Hall Association of Georgia Tech for the 2019-2020 school year. My motivation of pursuing this role is to be able to serve my community through curating engaging and interesting events that will further encourage active participation from residents throughout the Georgia Tech community. Additionally, being that this position is vacant- I see even more of a need within my community and I'm willing to step up and help in any role or way that I can. If elected as Director of Programming, besides planning great social events for residents, I have several goals I wish to meet in the coming year. Foremost among them is ensuring that the gap amongst residence halls between not only SSM's and residents is bridged through social outings but also the gap that exists between residents and Executive Board members. One thing I've learned while being apart of RHA is that although we're one of the largest organizations on campus, many people don't know who we are, what exactly we do, or even what we look like. This should change because not only does it promote increased resident trust in an organization that they're paying money to but also fosters a true sense of community within an organization that prides themself on helping build communities. The way that I can help achieve this by being elected to DOP is by planning events of all calibers: social, fundraisers, mini leadership conferences, etc. These events will be places where residents can meet and greet with not just one another but also SSM's and Executive Board members and see people in more relaxed states versus in full work mode. Also, the diversity that lies in the type of events I hope to curate will be a great benefit to not just RHA but also residents because these events like mini leadership conferences and fundraisers allow them to take away something more from the event than just a good time or free food. My greatest asset as a candidate will be my experience as a hall council officer- specifically Communications Chair- and my knowledge of how the school works.Having been involved in RHA specifically in a freshman, living learning community- I have experience helping plan events and working closely alongside other Programs chairs and admire what they do and can bring to life just off of ideas. To this end I would love to finally be a more pivotal part in making big ideas come to life in terms of programs for RHA while simultaneously making student networking convenient and fun.

William Chestnut

I want to be the next DOP because I want to give back to the organization and community that has given so much to me in just a single year of being here and to the organization that has allowed me to connect with so many others in my community through both hall councils and through campus wide events. I want to continue doing that for myself and for others to have that same kind of opportunities to branch out and meet as many amazing people I have. I also want to use this position as an opportunity to continue to improve and better myself as well the organization. I hope to be able to leave this position at the end of the next school year having left a positive impact on myself and on the community
