Artificially Intelligent (AI) agents can have beliefs, goals, and, in some sense, even emotions, and may reason about the beliefs, goals, and emotions of others. Their behavior could make us wonder at their thoughtfulness or suspect them of insincerity, but are such appraisals of ours meaningful at all? Under what conditions should we ascribe sincerity, or lack thereof, to an AI agent? And how might we determine whether such an agent’s apparently thoughtful behavior is deliberate and genuine? I explore possible answers to such questions in the context of cognitive AI agents with capabilities such as narrative intelligence, socio-emotional reasoning, and goal-oriented behavior.

• Support cyber security monitoring and response capabilities to thwart attacks on Capital One
• Develop your skills in a variety of areas including security operations, malware analysis and emerging security solutions to protect and empower the Capital One workforce
