Getting to Know Georgia Tech: Jordan Dobson

Primary tabs

With over 15,000 undergraduate students, six colleges, and more than 30 majors, the Georgia Tech community is a large and unique group.

Meet Jordan Dobson – Ph.D. Environmental Engineering, Class of 2021

Hometown – Conyers, Georgia

Why did you choose to attend Georgia Tech?

I'm a Georgia native, and Tech has one of the best environmental engineering programs in the world, so it was a perfect choice. I've stayed here for my graduate degree because I am interested in continuing the research I started as an undergraduate.

What is your favorite memory at Tech?

During my first year, there was a light snowfall that barely dusted the ground. Since any amount of snow is rare in Atlanta, my friends and I decided to walk across campus in the middle of the night. We had a snowball fight with the little snow we could gather. It was definitely a Hallmark moment.

What do you like about Atlanta?

Atlanta is subtly the best at a lot of things. It's the Goldilocks city — not too cold, not unbearably hot, not overly expensive, but still offers a lot to do. Atlanta is diverse in every aspect, which means that there is always something going on.

What do you like to do outside of classes?

It sounds nerdy, but I like to make things in my free time. I've made fire pits that float in swimming pools, clocks that tell the location of family members, and even a method of making a glowing message on jewelry like in Lord of the Rings.
