Georgia Tech Hosts Second Annual Legislative Day

Primary tabs

As thousands of Georgia Tech alumni and fans filled Bobby Dodd Stadium to support the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, they were joined in the stands by a few special backers of the Institute.  Close to 200 federal, state, and local government leaders brought their support of Tech to the gridiron this weekend as part of the Institute's annual Legislative Day.

Hosted by President and Mrs. Peterson in collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Relations, the 2010 Legislative Day marked the second edition of the event initiated last year with the arrival of President Peterson.  Intended as an opportunity to show the Institute's gratitude for its governmental stakeholders' ongoing support, guests attended a reception at the President's Residence before attending the NC State football game.

"Legislative Day provides a great opportunity to offer our thanks and share our campus with a myriad of state leaders, many of whom have never visited us before," noted Dene Sheheane, Executive Director of Government and Community Relations.  "We're extremely pleased that so many of our external partners joined us this weekend so that we could salute them."

Among the Legislative Day guests were Governor Sonny Perdue, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston, US Senator Johnny Isakson, and Congressman Phil Gingrey.  Guests also included state legislators, agency heads, University System officials, and legislative staffers.  Georgia Tech Legislative Network Steering Committee members assisted in hosting the guests.
