Join the Student Mindfulness Book Club Today

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech is tough and sometimes it can be challenging to escape the constant pressures caused by the social and academic demands. Learn how to cope with or eliminate stress at the Health Initiatives Student Mindfulness Book Club. The purpose of the book club is to inspire students to learn about the factors that cause stress and to practice evidence-based techniques to help one manage stress in a healthy manner. This club will take place every Tuesday in October at 10 a.m. in the Student Center Cypress Room.  Enjoy a light breakfast while discussing the book, The Mindful Twenty-Something: Life Skills to Handle Stress...and Everything Else by Dr. Holly Rogers, MD.

So why is practicing meditation important in one’s daily life? Club moderator and Health Initiatives Health Educator, Jocelyn Resnick said, “Through mindfulness, an individual is able to focus on their present state and inner self. By thinking about the now they can slow down for a moment and let go of negative feelings and emotions.”

Don’t believe us?  Check out these three reasons why you definitely should join in on the meditation!

Free breakfast!

Yes, that’s right! FREE breakfast coming right up! Since our meetings take place in the morning, we will offer a light breakfast for those who attend. Not a bad start to the day, huh?

You will become more mindful throughout your daily life

The Student Mindfulness Book Club encourages the practice of mindfulness both during and outside of meetings. Studies show that meditation and mindfulness do in fact reduce the amount of stress in one’s life.  Resnick said “practicing mindfulness on a regular basis will help students feel more grounded and aware throughout their everyday life”.

You will become a member of a supportive and mindful group of people

Practicing meditation with others creates a large community of individuals who all have the goal to learn about new mindfulness techniques and tips on how to manage stress. Open dialogue in these meetings allows students to learn from their peers and discover which techniques work best!

Grab your friends and join us for the first Student Mindfulness Book Club. The book will be provided at the first event. Go to healthinitiatives.gatech.edu/mindfulness to register before October 1st.
