What's New with Health Initiatives this Fall?

Health Initiatives (HI) is back this fall with new programs and services to help Georgia Tech students and employees thrive on and off campus. HI provides innovative programs, events, workshops and one-on-one counseling that influences and empowers the campus community to practice healthy lifestyle behaviors. Take a look at the new offerings for the fall semester! HI Senior Director, Stacy Connell said, “Our team worked hard over the summer to develop new programs and services designed with both Georgia Tech students and employees in mind. We are excited to expand our offerings in finance and mental health as well as provide additional peer education opportunities.”

Students and employees, you can find a full list of new offerings for the fall below:

Students:

  • Healthy Jackets peer education program - seeks out campus leaders who serve as healthy lifestyle role-models to their peers. You can further develop your public speaking and leadership skills by leading presentations on a variety of health topics in a peer to peer environment. 
  • Wellness Coaching is available for students to join facilitated conversations focused on individual wellness topics. Students work together to set meaningful, specific goals by acknowledging and applying their individual strengths during these sessions.
  • Alexa Health discover health resource “skills” on Alexa Dot to improve your mood, health, physical activity, and daily life. These “skills’ are available FREE for students and employees who have an Alexa Dot.
  • Mindfulness Book Club - is a weekly discussion of the book, The Mindful Twenty-Something: Life Skills to Handle Stress...and Everything Else. You will learn about what factors cause stress and practice techniques to help manage them in a healthy way.
  • JOOL Health – this mobile phone app is available for students to stay motivated in reaching your health and wellness goals. This app helps keep you on track with targeted tips, guidance, and support geared toward your individual goals.
  • Intuitive Eating – are workshops designed to encourage students to grow a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. Workshops occur bi-weekly on Thursdays at 4pm.
  • Transit-Financial Wellness - is a free, online course designed to provide college students with the skills they need to understand their finances and successfully transition in and out of the college experience. This course focuses on school expenses, personal expenses, and career/post-graduation decisions.

Employees:

  • Alexa HealthDiscover health resource “skills” on Alexa Dot to improve your mood, health, physical activity, and daily life. These “skills’ are available FREE for students and employees who have an Alexa Dot.
  • Mindfulness Book Club - Join other employees in a weekly discussion of the book Mindfulness Meditation: Your Guide to Achieving a Life of Peace by Reducing Stress and Anxiety through Mindfulness Meditation by Daniel K. Barton. You will explore effective and simple ways to become calmer, more centered, and more relaxed. The book provides “practical techniques to create a state of deep relaxation and deal with anxiety.”
  • JOOL Health – this mobile app is available for employees to stay motivated in reaching their health and wellness goals with targeted tips, guidance, and support geared toward their individual needs.
